What a season!! It all started with me bumping Evangeline up to the 8-U a year too early by mistake. Technically she should have still been playing tee-ball for another season, but not knowing what I was doing I had her bumped up...there's a little more to that story, but I'll just leave it at that. Tee-ball was just cute, 8-U was serious... It turned out being such a great decision and after watching how much she improved this season, I really can't imagine her playing tee-ball. She was already hitting pretty well last year in tee-ball, but she improved so much this year. She hit most of the times she was at bat. She played right field most of the time where she was free to daydream all she wanted, kick around in the dirt, watch the clouds, pick grass....basically just be Evangeline.
Two funny stories about Evangeline this season...A few weeks ago Evangeline was playing right field. The inning was up and all the players from both teams were exiting the field. Evangeline was completely oblivious to the fact that the inning was over and that everyone was leaving the field. She was the only one left on the field for a good 2 minutes. We were all yelling at her, trying to get her attention. Finally a coach from the other team had to yell to our coach that there was still a player on the field. She just giggled her little self over to the dugout.
At another game (during the championships, no less) we were the visiting team which meant that our dugout was the dugout we weren't typically in. After an inning was over Evangeline ran to the wrong dugout, entered the dugout, even gave someone a high five all before noticing that she was in with the wrong team! She gave everyone in the stands a good chuckle. She wasn't the least bit phased though, just ran over to the other dugout, again, giggling the whole time....That's our girl!
She got to be the catcher for a few innings in one game. She wasn't too jazzed about this. The gear was as big as she was. She did great though. Even took a few blows with a bat.
We were seeded 4th in the league when the tournament started....we wound up winning the whole tournament!!! It was so exciting! These girls have all grown so much! I just couldn't believe we came in 1st. We knocked out some really good teams, and some games were down-right close. What a fantastic experience. What will we do with our Wednesday and Friday nights now?
"Win! Win! Win! For the Lion's Den!"
