My Birthday

I love my birthday.  Every year.  I love the time of year.  I love the feeling I have every birthday morning when I wake up, how special the day feels, even if it's just a normal old work day and no one even knows it's my birthday.  It's just a day of smiles.  My kids, husband and parents always make it special and it always is.

I love to spend the Sunday of my birthday week going to St. Mary's for Sunday brunch and then take a walk around the grounds.  It was a chilly, but sunny day this year.

My babies wanted to bake a cake for me.  So the day before my birthday Evangeline made me a layer cake and she made a layer for Jed to decorate.  This was the first cake Jed has decorated and he was way into it.  I have the sweetest kids.  They sure make me feel loved.

I LOVE this picture because it speaks volumes.  He could not wait to eat the cakes and I made them wait until my actual birthday the next day.

Peggy had me over for a birthday dinner.  We had cake and played games.

The weekend after my birthday my children had yet another birthday celebration for me complete with handmade cards, birthday hats, party games and place settings.  Of course we had more cake.

Let's just say, at 39, I feel the happiest I've ever felt and the healthiest I've felt in years.  :)

Making Old Things New

Evangeline was assigned a repurposing project for Earth Day at school.  She was to create something useful using at least two items that would be otherwise thrown away or recycled.  We thought of a few things, but nothing really seemed too exciting until we remembered that a few weeks prior we brought home some old linins from the farm.  I had washed them and many of them were in great shape, while others had some yellowed spots or were not something we had a need for.  We decided to use one of the old table clothes (embroidered by either Evangeline's great grandmother or one of her great-great aunts), some scrap fabric and scrap embroidery floss to make a lap blanket.

Not only was this project fun because of the items we were using, but it was also exciting because it's the first sewing project Evangeline made start to finish on her own.  She even used the sewing machine completely by herself to put the blanket together.

Jed, of course, is always interested in whatever Evangeline is doing, much to her displeasure much of the time.....

At the end she tie tacked it, which is how my grandma finished a lot of her blankets.  She was very excited to share it with her class.

Photo Dump

These are just some more of the moments that made up our early spring...

A little boy with constant bedhead/the profile that melts my heart....

Playing games like Going Fishin'.  Jed always has his mouth wide open when he plays this game and it's ever so cute because he looks just like he's one of the fish....

Making terrariums with Evangeline at a shop downtown.....

This guy in the mornings.  He always makes it extra hard to leave for work....

and there's still the bed hog in our bed every night....

Grumpy/snuggly after waking up from his nap...

and foggy spring mornings.....

Busy in the kitchen with my children who love to help.  Hearing Jed say the word, "Snickerdoodles" makes all the extra calories I consumed worth it.

When Evangeline's not baking real treats, she's making them with Play Dough.....

Jelly beans are the reward for going "pee pee" on the potty....

Jed's the best at hiding.....

Our neighbor cat, Milky.  I wish for a better life for him.  He sure is a survivor....

Evangeline is a huge fan of the "to do" list and when I find them laying around they make me happy....

More fog, this time with lots of wild mustard.....Such a beautiful morning view.

Pickles coming out of a Sunday nap....
