Quips and Short Stories

This entry has been very overwhelming for me because I've been meaning to write it forever now and the topic has been building for months now.  The following are just some of the things Jed has said or has been saying for the last few months.  I started this list around May sometime.  It's just a compiling of notes I've jotted down for the last few months.  The notes have been found in my purse, the drawer in the kitchen, my night stand, etc.  I am making myself put them all here....(These pictures are also a few months old, but I thought I would just stick them here since parts of this post are also a few months old.)

Jed loves to say "no fair" with a very dramatic flair.  He throws his head to the side as he says it.  Most of the time it's totally out of context and I'm sure it's something he's picked up from Evangeline.

When I put Jed to bed he still tells me, "Merry Christmas, Happy New Year" as I lay him in his crib.

He likes to say, "that makes since" after I explain something to him.

When I ask him something he often says, "maybe, maybe not".

He likes to tell us to, "sit on your buns" or "sit on your bottom".  I must say "sit on your bottom" a million times a day during the school year....Obviously I use it at home too.

He chases me around giggling saying, "spank your little bottom".

His pronunciation of things are just adorable.  Here are a few of my current favorites:
fwing=swing
gwop=drop
fwim=swim

He always tells us and everyone that he's a "big guy".  We were somewhere recently and someone said something like, there's a cute little guy, and Jed under his breath said, "I'm a big guy".  He is super sensitive to being called little anything.

Jed's been going on the potty for the past few months.  Peggy started it back in the spring.  He was excited about it at first, but he's pretty much given it up.  Actually, that's the only time he will tell me that he's a little guy.  I tell him little guys where diapers and he says, "I'm a little guy".  What a stinker.  Anyway, Peggy told me back in the spring when he was going pretty regularly when she would sit him on the potty that one day she sat him down and he tried and tried.  After a while of trying he told her that "this is frustrating".  She got a big laugh out of that.

He gets very territorial when I am in the church nursery with him.  If I pick up another baby or give anyone else attention he comes right over and taps me on the leg saying, "that's my mommy, that's mine"

When Jed's in a good mood he always tells us, "Mom, I want to be nice to you" or "Daddy, I want to be nice to you" or "EB, I want to be nice to you" or "I want to be nice to everybody".  He says this all the time.

He refers to the sun as "Mr. Golden Sun" (he picked it up from a song he loves to sing about "Mr. Sun, Mr. Golden Sun, please shine down on me")  For example, when it's cloudy he will say, "where's Mr. Golden Sun?" or he will say, "Mr. Golden Sun is in my eyes!".  One day he got a little pink when we were swimming despite several applications of sunscreen.  Kyle said something to him about it and he said, "I got fried.  Mr. Golden Sun did that to me on 'porfous'!"

on porfous=on purpose.  He loves to say something happened "on porfous".  It's out of context a lot which makes it even funnier.
He likes to call his sister ether EB, Eebs or "Ebangeline Bwook".

He like to say, "Mommy, I understand", mostly out of context, but ever so cute.

Jed also likes the phrase, "that's not possible".

Jed loves to swing and always exclaims, "na na weeee, that's fun!"
He's obsessed with supper heroes.

He wants to be a race car driver when he grows up.

Jed loves to sing Take Me Out to the Ball Game, By the Mark and Row Row Row Your Boat while his Daddy plays the guitar.

One day Jed came up to me crying and upset.  I asked him what was wrong and he said, "I wanna knock EB over, but she's not going to let me."

He begs for something by saying "please oh please oh please".  Please sounds more like "peas"...makes it hard to refuse.

He loves "booming bad guys" everything is some kind of device to fight off the bad guys.  I have no idea where he learned this.  One day he told me that he doesn't like it when bad guys hurt good people.  I know he picked that up from his super hero book, but it really made an impression on him I guess.

I don't think I ever recorded this, but a few months back when I would leave for work he would tell me things like, "be careful outside" or "be careful on the stairs" after I would kiss him goodbye.

Here are a few more phrases he's said that I've jotted down:

Jed: "Mom, I wanna touch you. (leans over to touch my stomach from his high chair)  "What's that?"
Me: "My belly button"
Jed:  "It's supposed to be a nose on that" (referring to my umbilical hernia that sticks out...kids really know how to take you down a notch!)
"Love you Mommy.  Best in the world."

"I'm happy.  Mommy makes me happy."

"I be nice to Daddy, Mommy, Pickles and EB.  I be nice everybody!"

He has such a sense of humor.  Here is a conversation about his bath water...
Me: "It's not cold and it's not hot.  It's just right.  (dipping his toes in) What's it feel like?"
Jed:  "Garlic bread."
Me:  "Garlic bread?!  How does it feel like garlic bread?"
Jed:  "I being a stinker!"  (big grin)

This one happened this past week:
Jed:  "EB left her doughnut outside." (this is what he calls her pool ring.)
Me:  "She did?"
Jed:  "Yeah, she didn't quite listen"
Me:  "What are we going to do with her?"
Jed:  "I don't know.  Just play with her, I guess."

OH MY WORD.  WE JUST LOVE THIS BOY.

Get Away

Mom and I took Evangeline and Jed on an overnight trip to McCormick's Creek State Park.  We had so much fun.  The first day we spent in Bloomington walking around to the various shops and cafes.  We headed to the park at check-in time.  Our room was so cozy and adorable.  We swam in the pool, ate at the restaurant at the Inn and had ice cream on the beautiful lawn.  We took a little walk before I put Jed down to bed.  Mom and Evangeline spent a lot of time that evening in the lobby playing Sorry.  In the morning we ate again at the lodge and then took a nice walk on the trails.  Evangeline rode a pony.  Jed was too horrified at the idea of riding the pony to even consider it.  Jed and I sat in the shade and watched.

One memory that stands out was Jed screaming, "I'm pooping, I'm pooping!  Change me!" at the top of his lungs while we were eating at the restaurant.  Mom and I looked at each other in surprise, shock and horror, and then we just started cracking up because that was really all their was to do before rushing him out to change him.

We are definitely making this a annual tradition.

Summer Days

Summer days are for sleeping in and lounging in jammies just a little longer.  They are for playing with cousins and staying with Grandmas, eating treats and getting pampered.  We love our summer days.

Play Ball!

Evangeline just wrapped up another season of softball.  She has improved so much.  She was one of the oldest on her team this year and also one of the more experienced.  It was good for her confidence.  She mostly played second base.  She was so much more focused this year, which is good since she played in the infield where it was so very necessary.  She practiced a lot more willingly with Kyle between games this season too.

She tagged several girls out this year, which was very exciting.....

And slidding into home plate was a new thing this year.  She always liked to ask me how much dust her slide made.

Jed was a trooper at all of her games.  As long as he had his ice water, snack, super hero figures and a pile of rocks of dirt he was pretty content.

Her team came in 3rd place this year.
