Pioneer Days

Mom and I took the kids to Fowler Park for Pioneer Days over the weekend.  Oh, so much fun!  Jed slept snuggled up in the front carrier the whole time and Evangeline was at the height of her glory.   We listened to stories, ate apple butter and caramel corn cooked over an open flame in a cast-iron kettle, and tasted snickerdoodles baked in a fireplace.  Evangeline got to try her hand at stringing beans and she and her grandma took a ride in a covered wagon.  It was great.  Evangeline used her own money to purchase a bonnet.  All she could talk about was how she wants to be a volunteer pioneer.  (She literally talked about it for the rest of the weekend while wearing all of her "pioneer-ish" clothing.  She even insisted on wearing her shawl to school today.)  She told me that she knows that she'll make a great pioneer because she's had a lot of practice being a pioneer.  It's true.  It's all her and her cousins do when they get together lately.  They call it playing, "back in the day", or "the old days".

Mom snapped these pictures of two happy kiddos as I was exiting the park....one sleepy and one well rested.
