My 7-year-old loves mermaids and fairies. She always tells me that she believes that she is turning into one or the other. Sometimes she is convinced that she is growing wings and shrinking, and other times she tells me not to be surprised if we wake up to find her legs are stuck together.
She prefers to wear her hair in braids. She would also ware her Mary Jane shoes everyday given the chance.
My 7-year-old is so particular about her days of the week underwear. She is distraught if the undies she has on are the wrong day. If she finds out that it's Wednesday and she thought it was Thursday she will promptly drop everything and change them to the correct day. With it being summer break she's gotten a little off on what day it is. The other day I was talking to Peggy and said something about it being Monday. Evangeline jumped in, "wait it's Monday! I have on my Tuesday underwear!" If she notices that she is getting low on days in her drawer she will stay on me to start a load of laundry for fear that she will not have that day of the week to wear when needed. Last year I actually found her rummaging around through her hamper to find the pair she needed that day. Thankfully I caught her in time to have a nice little talk about not wearing clothes out of the hamper. She has total OCD about her days of the week undies.
Evangeline loves nature. I find tiny notes and flowers outside in the garden she's left for the fairies. We always have to stop her from bringing nature inside. Last week, to my disgust, I found that there were about a dozen baby caterpillars on her windowsill. After I told her about it she said, "Shoot! I brought in something that looked neat. My heart told me, 'no, don't do it, those are probably eggs', but I did it anyway. Sorry, Mommy."
My 7-year-old loves making toast and gets even more of a thrill if there is someone she can make toast for. It makes her feel like a big girl. She's been wanting a toaster forever. We left ours at the Lashbrook house by mistake. She told Peggy she wanted one for her birthday, but I went ahead and got one. She told me, "I love making toast. It's my hobby."
Evangeline calls my mom "Granmall" and has been spelling it "Granmall" for the past few years. My mom just loves it. I was in the car with Evangeline the other day when she told me, "I know how to spell grandma now, but I'm going to keep spelling it the way I've been spelling it because Grandma likes it. I know you only spell Grandma with one L, not two. For some reason adults like it when kids don't spell things right." I thought this was just too precious and of course I couldn't correct her, not yet.
My 7-year-old is lovely.
