Evangeline had her kindergarten physical. She did awesome. She was so brave as she got her two shots and some blood drawn. We talked about how the waiting is the hardest part (insert Tom Petty song to be stuck in my head for the rest of the day). We decided to reward her bravery with one of her favorite things to do...lunch and play at the Children's Museum.
One of her latest big girl tricks is opening the car door all by "herselth" and getting strapped in all by "herselth". Ahhh, I can not bring "myselth" to correct her pronunciation of "myselth". She will learn eventually. For now it's just too dang cute.
Here's what we got last week. We loved the ground cherries and the purple potatoes. I made some zuppa with those purple potatoes. They're gorgeous.
We also bought 5 pounds of blueberries at the Blueberry Fest last week. We were going to make some jam with them, but then decided just to freeze them because there's nothing better than frozen berries in your cheerios in the morning....mmmmm....how the milk freezes around each berry. Oh yum!
What is it about taking pictures of food? I was just discussing this with Colleen last night. We both mentioned how we love taking pictures of food.
We've hardly missed a band concert. I asked Evangeline if she was going to be able to run around the court house lawn since her legs were so tender from her shots. She told me she was going to have to "check out her walking skills" first. She managed to hobbled around, I could tell she was sore. I remember how my behind would ache so much after my shots. Hmmm, why don't they give shots in the rear end anymore anyhow?
And oh my goodness, my heart swelled when this little angel practiced her song for church yesterday. She did awesome. I was sopping up the tears as she belted out "Cool Summer", a VBS song from a few years back at Mom's church. I've had my doubts about whether or not she'll do it when the church is full on Sunday, but just hearing her get her courage up to practice for Paula, James, Peggy, and Pastor Richard was enough for me. She's amazing. She kept glancing over at me with her timid little grin, kept time by bouncing her knee. I gave her a lollypop afterward and we walked across to check our PO box. She got a birthday card from Toy's 'R Us (marketing ploy) and said, "You know why this is the best day ever? Because I got to sing with a real microphone, get a lollypop and I got a birthday card!"
Evangeline likes to finish sentences with "I'm serious" and "for real life". For example, the other day I told her she was being a whiny-pants. She replied "Mom, you're saying a bad word. That's a bad word, for real life it is."
Here's another dandy of late:
Evangeline: "you know what I'm thinking for the school year?"
Me: What?
Evangeline: "I get to learn how to be a human"
We had Chloe over today and as the morning grew later the wilder the girls got. I finally had to tell Evangeline to chill out when I heard her jumping on her bed with her Lincoln doll saying in her best Lincoln voice, "I'm Abraham Lincoln. Four score and seven years ago..."
And my favorite:
"Mommy, will you always stay with me?"....... Yes I will, little girl. Always.
Love this post. Just loving your blogs lately. We are so jelly of the Abe Lincoln doll for real life.
