We have had nothing but rain, rain, rain, but that hasn't stopped us from having a very busy and lovely week. Last Sunday evening Kyle, Evangeline and I went to a bluegrass concert at Deming Park and then out to dinner at Rick's BBQ. It was a nice evening. We enjoyed watching Evangeline playing at the park and marveled at the difference in how she maneuvers a playground compared to last year. You would never be able to tell she once needed physical therapy to get around. She is unstoppable.
The cousins were back again last week. They came and played at our house for about an hour Monday morning, which was a real treat for Evangeline. That night she commented about how that had been the best part of her day.
Peggy and I took the girls swimming at the blue house in the morning, braked for lunch and then hit the Marshall pool in the afternoon. As we were walking to the Marshall pool it started to rain. Not enough to interrupt our plans though. Peggy and I sat at the edge of the kiddy pool in the drizzle and watched the girls have a blast together.
Tuesday was a big day! One of the highlights was the Summer Reading Program wrap-up party at the library. Evangeline was the grand prize winner! She won all kinds of goodies; books, a DVD, backpack, wallet, engineer cap, reading lamp a few coupons, and many other things. She got her picture taken for the paper and everything! It was pretty exciting!
We topped off the evening with more swimming at Emma and Luke Smitly's house.
On Wednesday we got another massive rain shower. It got dark around 10:00am and it totally confused E.B. She thought it was nighttime and wondered where Daddy was and thought he would be home from work any minute. I can't believe how much rain we have gotten this summer. I don't think I am alone in wanting a break from it.
That afternoon we went with Colleen and Ainslee to Casey to see the world's biggest wind chime. There is a cute little café there where we had lunch. I was quite a sight.
Here's the little girl ringing the world's largest wind chime....not as easy as it looks.
After lunch we walked down the street to see...drum-roll, please...the world's biggest knitting needles and crochet hook!!! Who knew!!?? Right there in Casey! Now, this was far more thrilling than the wind chime, hands down. Evangeline thought so too. We were both pretty impressed by this scene.
The rain finally let up and on Thursday we enjoyed a beautiful morning in Terre Haute at the Terre Foods Blueberry Festival. We went with Erica and the Crumrin twins.
It was a tasty morning spent with good company.
One of my favorite Evangeline quotes of the week:
Evangeline: I love my Daddy. I wish he was a girl.
Mommy: Why do you wish he was a girl?
Evangeline: Because I like to play with girls and I don't like to play with boys.
Mommy: Well, you can play with your Daddy even though he is a boy. That's okay.
