I had to absolutely force myself to finish this dress I started for Evangeline over a year ago. All that was left to do was the sleeves, which would take no time at all. For some reason I just could not make myself do it. She loves the other dress I knitted her with this same pattern and it's starting to look a little worn out from all of the wear. It was time for a new one. Not to mention I was worried that if I didn't get on it she would grow out of it before I ever finished. So last week I forced myself and I'm so glad I did. Evangeline looks beautiful in this dress and she was so excited to wear it. I was sure to tell her that I knitted prayers for her into it, which is something I try to do anytime I knit something for someone.
The kindergarten teacher's chicken eggs hatched last week. When I was at a meeting last week Evangeline came in to tell me that for the past 20 minutes she got to watch an egg hatch. It was such a wonderful opportunity for her. It was the first egg to hatch and she just happened to be there to see it. It was a little black chick. Here she is pictured below holding that very chick the next day. It's hard to believe this little thing was just in an egg the day before. A miracle.
I knew the day would come that Evangeline would reach 2nd grade and be reading Thunder Cake by Patricia Polacco to me. I remember walking down the hallway a few years ago when Evangeline was in Kindergarten and overhearing a 2nd grade boy reading this story to a Title teacher from his reader. I remember thinking to myself how I couldn't believe that Evangeline would be reading me Thunder Cake by the second grade. It just didn't seem possible that she would so soon be reading me one of the books that I've loved reading to her. I mean, that's a big story with lots of words, and big words to boot. Well, it happened last week. It was her reading homework. Just another reminder of how fast it all goes.
Whenever her class reads a story dealing with a particular food her teacher sends home a recipe to go with it. We try to make them. We made thunder cake one night last week. It happened to be a rainy night in the middle of a stormy week. It was perfect. She brought a piece to school for Mrs. Cannady.

Here is Evangeline and Anna Karrass after school one afternoon a few weeks ago. Anna's mom teaches 2nd grade. They made hats out of bowls with a hole cut in them for their pony tails. They get pretty creative while waiting for their moms to get done with work.
