Evangeline lost another tooth at school a week ago last Wednesday. She always likes to tell me "the story of the missing tooth" detailing exactly how the tooth fell out play by play. She always leaves the tooth fairy such sweet notes of gratitude and appreciation. She got a dollar and a gold chocolate coin this time. Chocolate from the Tooth Fairy! Who ever heard of such a thing! Also, this was so bizarre...Evangeline, Savannah and Lily all lost a tooth on the exact some day! What are the odds of that!
Evangeline entered a few pieces of her artwork again this year at the Gaslight Artist Colony children's art show. One of her works, "Flowers for Sale" won the mayor's award. Later in the week we were notified that she also won People's Choice. We were all very excited. She is pictured here with both of her entered pieces, "Flowers for Sale" and "Van Gogh Flowers".
In other art news, Evangeline attended a painting and pie class with Grandma at the Pie Company. They had a lot of fun and both created beautiful paintings of the aurora borealis.
Jed had his 18 month doctor's appointment. The doctor said he's in the 18 percentile for weight and 50th for height.
Jed can do a full blown summersault now. He started doing them successfully at Peggy's one afternoon when I came to pick him up after work. He was cracking himself up after each one. Peggy and I think that's pretty darn impressive for an 18 month old.
Kyle's 42nd birthday was last Thursday. He shares a birthday with Dr. Seuss. Evangeline decided to make him several Dr. Seuss birthday signs. I hung them up around the kitchen after he went to bed so it would be a surprise to him in the morning. That evening my mom came to help me with a surprise for Kyle. She babysat the kids and I had made reservations at the Umi Grill for us. It was a fun evening and he was surprised :)
Last week was Read Across America week. Each day we had a different Dr. Seuss inspired theme at school. Evangeline loves theme weeks. On crazy sock day I happened to see her in the hallway walking with her class. When I passed I tapped her to get her attention. I kept walking by and she whispered, "mom" to me kind of frantically. I turned to see what the problem was and she was pointing down at her foot. I saw her crazy socks and noticed that she only had one shoe on. I asked her where her other shoe was and she said she didn't know! What in the world! I asked her how on earth could she not know where her shoe was! While I was sorting this out with her Mrs. Cannady noticed that we were chatting about something and I told her what was going on. We looked back in the hallway and there it was a few yards back. We all giggled about it. Later I asked her how in the world a person steps out of their shoe and doesn't realize it immediately!?? This girl...she's something else, that's for sure.
Since it's my last year with Evangeline to celebrate themed weeks at South School I decided to make sure I took some pictures: The first is wear green day for Green Eggs and Ham, the next two pictures are on hat day for The Cat in the Hat. Evangeline wore a tiny little party hat because hat day was on Dr. Seuss and Kyle's birthday. We both wore our balloon shirts on that day. Then there is a picture of her in her go-to whacky day outfit. It's the same dress she wore for whacky day last year.
Basketball season ended a few weeks back. Evangeline did so well this season. She had the ball several times, was pretty aggressive on defense and even shot a few times in the last game. She cried when it was all over because she didn't ever make a basket. She seems to be really developing a love for playing the game. She absolutely loves playing with Kyle.
Precious little face....
Evangeline was invited to play at her friend Alex's house this afternoon. Her mom invited me in for tea and I stayed and chatted for a few minutes. While I was there I remarked on how much Alex had come out of her shell in the past year. I had Alex in reading groups in the first grade and I also remember watching her dad painfully leaving her each morning as she cried and cried in the kindergarten class across the hall from my room. When Alex was at our house a few weeks ago I commented to Kyle about how this little girl was painfully shy and how I couldn't believe how far she has come. Her mom said to me, "I'm going to tell you what Alex tells me about Evangeline". I braced myself. She said, "Evangeline won't let anyone pick on me or be mean to me. Evangeline doesn't stand for that." My heart swelled and I instantly started tearing up. Her mom told me that Alex had been diagnosed with a social anxiety disorder and that they pray and thank God each night for Evangeline and what a wonderful friend she has been to Alex. After she shared that she gave me a hug. I could not have been more proud of this amazing little person that calls me Mom. I love her so much.
That is heartwarming. Thanks for sharing.
