Work and Play

The amount of learning taking place around here has been astounding lately.  I absolutely love all the papers Evangeline is bringing home from school.  She's reading to me every night.  We do sight words and read the leveled books she's bringing home.  I love watching the her excitement and enthusiasm involved with the process of learning to read.  It's amazing.
This is one of the first things Evangeline brought home from Kindergarten.  Mrs. Reynolds had all of her classmate's paper people hanging in the hallway at the beginning of the year.

Evangeline brought this home the other day and I was very impressed with the words she sounded out.

Here is her first sentence.

Evangeline received a "shout out" in her class newsletter for bringing a gourd to each of her classmates a few weeks back.

Here is another paper from earlier in the year I couldn't bare to part with.

And this is just a lovely fish she drew.  I've always loved her artwork.

By golly, she's been working on those color words.

Evangeline also rocked her first official eye check up.

We've been enjoying the crisp autumn weather that's swept through the valley.  It's brought a lot of rain with it.  I'm not sure we will have the beautiful display of fall leaves that we had last year.  The leaves have been turning, but I'm afraid the rain will take them right off the trees.  I love this time of year.  It's so cozy.  We've been relishing all of the lovely things this season brings.....squash, spices, opened windows, snuggly sweaters, hot tea, pumpkins.

Some of my family came to visit a few weeks ago.  My aunt and uncle from Pennsylvania and my aunt and uncle from Texas.  I love seeing these people.  When I am around them I'm enveloped with memories of my childhood and loved ones past on.

Ahhh, it's the weekend and not just any weekend....a three day weekend.  I got to leave a little early today and had a few hours to myself at home. I cranked up Easy Tiger, an old favorite by Ryan Adams (it reminds me of Carbondale) on the old stereo.  I cleaned like a banshee and made chili and brownies.  Black bean brownies, at that.  It felt good to be in my house and productive at the same time.  My evening was shared with Granny, Peggy, Kyle and Evangeline in my nice clean house.  Can we keep it this tidy?  I'm always willing to try.
