Here's to Another Year!

I had a great birthday.  We celebrated at Dad's house last Sunday.  I requested that Dad make Kim Chi again because I had been drooling over it ever since he made it for Kyle's birthday.  He also made sushi.  Zachary rolled them all (bless him).

Oh my goodness, it was so, so, so good.

It was so nice to spend the evening with Zach and Candice.  We don't see them nearly enough.

We also cracked open the sake Zachary brought back from Japan and sipped it from the sake cups dad made.

Cheers!

We did lots of eating, laughing, listening to music and relaxing....

...a perfect birthday celebration!

My actual birthday was Monday.  It was a particularly beautiful spring day.  My school kids were especially sweet that day and enjoyed surprising me with dandelion bouquets.

I came home at lunch to find Kyle putting away all the dishes and sprucing up the kitchen.  That night we went to Peggy's for dinner.  She surprised me with a gift card to Barley's greenhouse in Paris!  I finished off the evening with a walk around the neighborhood with Peggy and Evangeline.

On Tuesday I met Mom and Kyle for dinner in Terre Haute after Evangeline's dance class.  We got ice cream afterwards. I just love my family.  They really know how to make a girl feel special.

Every year on my birthday I try to take some time during the day to count my blessings and give thanks for all that I have.  I wish I could say I do this everyday.  I try to live a life of gratitude, but I know I have a lot of work to do.  It's so easy for me to get sucked into a rut, complaining about the little things, worrying about things that are out of my control.  I lose sight of the big picture.  I am not proud of this little character trait of mine...but every year on my birthday I am reminded of yet another fleeting year gone by and I just stop and stand in awe of this life I've been given.  I truly am so blessed and I have way more than I deserve.  I am thankful for another year with all the beautiful people I get to walk this life with.
