A Not So "Cweepy" Halloween

This year Jed wanted to be a "nice bat" and Evangeline wanted to be a Tootsie Roll.  I really wasn't sure how Evangeline's costume would turn out since I wasn't using any kind of pattern and Jed's costume was whipped up about an hour before the Frolic on the court house lawn.  Both kids were so happy with the end results, which makes it all worth it.
Evangeline won $10 in the costume contest.

Jed was very serious about his role as a nice bat and would correct anyone who dared to call him creepy or scary.  He was not having it.  After the frolic we went to eat downtown with Peggy and one of her friends.  As we were leaving we saw someone we knew and they commented to Jed on how he looked creepy.  He was already past his prime by this point and started crying and yelling, "I not 'cweepy', I nice!".  It was so funny at how irritated he was by this.

There are a lot of pictures because, seriously, what could be cuter than your children dressed as a Tootsie Roll and a bat?!

On Halloween night my mom joined us for dinner and Trick-or-Treating.  We started at Peggy's house and worked our way around the neighborhood.  Jed was loving it.  He always said "Trick-or-Treat", and often called out "Happy Halloween" as he walked away.  He was so polite and it warmed my heart.  Jed has also had the best time examining all the candy in his bucket.  It's amused him for the past several days.  He just loves to take it all out and look it over.

Pumpkin Carving

Jed was so excited to carve pumpkins this year.  I drew a few choices for facial features on a piece of paper and let him pick out what he wanted his pumpkin to look like.  He liked "scooping the goop" even though he got frustrated when it didn't come out as easily as he had hoped.  He also liked carrying the seeds around.  Evangeline drew out her own face.  Carving pumpkins is always one of my favorite fall activities. 

Fall Feels

 

I picked up several gallons of persimmons with my kids one fall afternoon.  I see lots and lots of persimmon cookies and puddings in our future. 

 

Kyle has been out mountain biking and running the trails.  He took the kids out to do some leaf peeping and hiking around. 

Evangeline and I enjoy getting the paints out from time to time.  I spent about an hour painting this "masterpiece" over Christopher Columbus weekend.  I'm finding it to be very relaxing.

 

We've enjoyed the corn this year.  It really closes in the yard, but it also makes it feel kind of cozy.  I like it better than beans.  I also love it right before it's harvested, when the stalks are big and dry.  They are just so majestic looking.  

 

I took this picture of the house a week or two before Halloween and seriously, just the following week the leaves on the maple to the left turned bright yellow and started to drop.  It was amazing how quickly the leaves changed.

 

Jed made this friendly little ghost at Peggy's house and he was so proud of it.  It hung in a place of honor on our refrigerator for the whole month of October.  

 

We've been getting the most beautiful morning sunlight filtering between what's left of the leaves in our backyard.  Every weekend we are home I find myself just in awe of this gorgeous sight. 

Before It Got Cold Out

This is the last pictures of my pretty little garden, taken just days before the frost got it. 

 

Evangeline drew this little picture of Pickles at the beginning of the school year.  It's been hanging on the refrigerator.   We just love this kitty....

 

We sure loved spending time outside after getting home from work/school.  We already miss being able to go out so much now that the time has changed and the temps have dropped.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

Nerd Alert

Jed and Evangeline received these silly glasses somewhere and one day Jed and I decided we needed to try them out and take ridiculous selfies.  These pictures crack me up.

Pumpkin Tree

Did I mention our pumpkin tree?  Several weeks ago Kyle spotted large yellow blossoms on a tree in our back yard.  Upon further examination I discovered that the seeds from a pumpkin I threw out in the woods last fall had germinated and its vine wrapped itself up in a tree.  We had pumpkins and blossoms growing on the tree for weeks!  We loved to check on the tree every so often and watch the pumpkins turn orange.  We "harvested" two nice little pie pumpkins for our front porch.
